Dash's Formula for ...

Misery =

[(A thundering colossal T-rex sized headache trample-and-stomp attack) + (A runny nose that kept running) + (A persistent hollow-sounding cough)] x (Being caught out in a chilly thunderstorm)

Hmmm, ah well, on the topic of dinosaur-sized headaches, here's a good piece of advice if you do see a dinosaur:

Seven Dashes of Colours

Dash spotted a rainbow from the office window just now at about 5:40pm. Soon, there was a happy tumultuous tumbling of SPRDians from their cubicles and rooms into the pantry area to take in the ethereal sight : )

Some SPRDians captured a shot of the delightful bridge of refracted sunrays in their handphone cameras. Truly, technology has enabled us to put a piece of rainbow in our pockets : ) See mf's little piece on this

For Dash who was caught without her camera today, she can only draw an impression of the refreshing rainbow with seven dashes of colours - see drawing above : )

Afternote: The cheery little bridge disappeared at about 6pm. Btw, other than having seven dashes of colours, "rainbow" is also seven-lettered word : )

Ebony and Ivory in Nature

Dash took this picture of the back of an unsuspecting zebra at Tama Zoo, in Hino City, suburbs of Tokyo, Japan in Dec 2005.

Dash saw frog's Ebony and Ivory series of city landscape (this, this, this and this). And to complete the dichotomy, Dash posted this Ebony and Ivory in nature to complement frog's urban photographs : )

An Antidote for Gloomy Rainy Days

A cheery bright pooh bear, peering curiously out at the raindrops falling onto earth, from the snugly warm interior of a car : )

(Picture taken of the pooh bear from my boss, Andy's car. This pooh is like an identification mark on the car for people like Dash for whom cars are cars, and can only differentiate cars by their colours :)

一些小快乐

A snippet of a post-lunch conversation Dash had today with a friend she had not chatted with for a long time:

Hock Siong: How's life?
Dash: 嘿,没有什么大欢喜, 但有些! (Translated as: "Heh. there haven't been any big excitement, but there are some little nuggets of happiness!)

And this is an example of Dash's two Saturdays ago : ) kekek

"We Keep the Earth Clean"

This was the design on the 7-eleven plastic bags used in Tokyo, Japan in Dec 2005. Dash really likes the drawings on them : )

Interesting that the slogan is about keeping the earth clean, and not about conservation of natural resources. Oh well, Dash will leave it to the dieheart romantic to comment on the environment message : )

Random Shot V: Toy from Another's Past

On the topic of simple pleasures from a simple past, Dash wants to share this picture of a toy.

Way before the proliferation of televisions and computers, a simple toy like this brings to life much imagination and play. Dash has a vivid memory of playing with a similar toy when she was a toddler, and believing that little Dash could possibly become the best boxer in the world : )

Random Shot IV: By Gum!

These are two pieces of gum which Dash bought from a quaint little ramen shop in KitaKyushu, Japan in Dec 2005. The wrapper even has a game on the inside for children so the kids get to exercise both their jaws and their brains : )

Back in the 1980s, Singapore used to have these pink and green tattoos in the wrappers of the gum too! The pink and green tattoos are real easy to transfer onto the skin, and are rather durable too : ) Simple pleasures from a simple past : )

Colour My Life

Gently,
I will ever so gently
paint caressing lines of silver
past pale veins of green.
I will see
dark streams of red
slowly,
ever
so
slowly,
shade the blinding blade.
When the warmth gently fades
and I slowly draw towards the light,
I can then softly,
ever so softly,
thread my dream of black.

Here is an extract from the chapter on "A Mad Tea Party in "Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll, a British author:

"Then you should say what you mean," the March Hare went on.

"I do," Alice hastily replied; "at least--at least I mean what I say--that's the same thing, you know."
"Not the same thing a bit!" said the Hatter. "You might just as well say that "I see what I eat" is the same thing as "I eat what I see"!"
"You might just as well say," added the March Hare, "that "I like what I get" is the same thing as "I get what I like"!"

a dog's life!

the dieheart romantic doesn't want to be known for just posting sad sad entries. Much like this dude on the left. That's one sad puppy.

So this is a pretty pointless post. To ask you guys to take this fun test if you haven't already.

Now, what's the point of this sad puppy? Oh yes, he's an Irish Setter and according to the test, the dieheart romantic is like an Irish Setter:

No bones about it, you are a devil-may-care Irish Setter. Fun-loving and light-hearted, life is an adventure for you- an attitude your nearest and dearest find refreshing and inspiring. Witty, with a nose for fun, you can turn any social gathering into an unforgettable event, which is why you are always at the top of the guest list. Your varied interests- anything and everything from sky-diving to club hopping- make you extremely well-rounded. Just make sure you don't get distracted and lose sight of your responsibilities. As long as you stay balanced, you're a lucky dog who will always be a kid at heart.- woof!

Errr, overall OK but some parts like nahso accurate leh.

The butcher

You cannot tell and you cannot see but hidden in this dark dungeon of a sprawling market in Ipoh is this little butcher shop.

You cannot see but this butcher has one of the saddest, most weathered looking faces that the dieheart romantic has ever seen.

You cannot tell how many customers came by his stall that day to rid him of his very modest stock of pork.

Even though the dieheart romantic was there in that stuffy and pungent caverned basement, he still cannot see nor tell you more than this.

Postcard Series V: Everday Sights from Dash's Desk

On Dash's left, sitting on top of a cabinet is a picture of a giraffe and a mustard-yellow bear.

On Dash's right, where Kin Wee sits, a dolled-up Qoo lies in a bed of roses... ermm, leaves. I believe that the plant is a welcome-2006 gift from Heng Kee, our previous Director.

(Joyce and Jason - Yes, this is the fate of Qoo after you both "abandoned" it!)

And in front of Dash, sharing the desk space with a laptop, a mess of papers and lots of emply coffee cups, sit two potted plants - Minty (yes, also a gift from Heng Kee) and Quincy and Dee (both in the red pot).

What the Forgetful Giant Left Behind ...

Searching for sea shells

This is a story about two people who went to the beach to look for sea shells. They walked deeper and deeper into the receding tide to look for better more beautiful shells, climbing the little ridges that somehow were not washed flat by the sweeping waves.

And the waves kept pulling back, revealing yet more expanse of sand, exposing more resplendent shells. So the two people kept walking and looking and picking.

Before they knew it, they have walked so far out into the dry sea that all they could see are the pale brown sand behind them and the light glimmer of the blue ocean in front of them. Unsure of where to turn, the pretty shells they held began to fall awkwardly from their grasps and they forgot why they even came so far in the first place.
