Pins and Needles

Dash had two bouts of pins and needles in a short one hour this late afternoon. Hmmm. Dash thinks that there could be at least two reasons for these attacks:

(A) Age is catching up. Now, the last time Dash checked, the warranty had expired. Ah well. Which divine being or department can Dash go to for an extension of warranty?; OR

(B) Someone (or maybe some people) is/are venting his/her/their frustration on a Dash-lookalike voodoo doll. For all the emails that added (or multiplied) onto their workload, especially in the past two weeks. Hmm. If so, Dash can only plead for leniency on grounds that Dash is only a messenger. Please don't poke pins and needles in me! Me, just a little page!; OR

(C) There is a martial arts pugilist in office who has successfully acquired the skill of immobilization across a distance (akin to 一阳指 perhaps?). And somehow unwittingly Dash must have just landed on his/her top 10 favorite list. Aiyah. Hmm. Have mercy!!

Crisis Management

In another of Dash's hopeless attempts to clear her current cache of email from 515MB to 50MB, Dash found this following amusing chain of email detailing the superb crisis management skills of two of our SPRD alumni:
____________
(Scene: On 17 Jun 2005, Jason's last day at MCYS)
Joyce: "Hi People, Sorry can't join [in the farewell dinner] tonight. My lame excuse: I can't. Has cancelled a b'day bash to join [you all] but just got a crisis call from a friend who's quite down, so am spending friday night out with her instead. Jason, I dun think this is my last goodbye, but you take care and make sure you control your paedophilic tendencies esp among the boys k? For your talent and sweetness, am sure you'll soar high wherever you go... hope the nie 'training' won't be to gruelling (i.e., BORING) for you ;p why aren't you wearing casual clothes today?? Why are you at work so early today??"

Jason: "Hi Joyce, This is a crisis email. A friend who's supposed to have dinner with me tonight can't make it in the end. Apparently, that bitch got some crisis call from one of her friends. That's really demoralising. Made me feel real suicidal. I called SOS and the line was engaged. Then I called home, and realised that my cat died. What a terrible day! O, why is God doing this to me! This is really depressing. My piles are acting up. The world looks grey and I feel I'm incidental to the scheme of things. I look inward, and I realise that I'm a piece of shit. And it's the diarrhoea kind of shit. Can you come to the tonight's dinner? If you can't, I am going to kill myself so that I can be with my cat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

(Five minutes later)
Jason: "It's ok now. Go to your friend. I just called my best friend Mike Jackson and he said he will find me some "therapy". Tks!"
____________

kekek, mmm. Dash realises that the usual Jason-Joyce interaction/attraction take place in the following forms:
(a) Non-Fatal Play, including soft toys swooshing across the air (oft aimed at Jason's head);
(b) Almost Fatal Attraction, including the rare swooshing of heavy objects across the air; and
(c) Verbal abuse, which in small or large doses is strangely affirmative in nurturing more hurling of insults : )

For those who cannot picture this relationship and who require visual pictorials, attached below is a photo depicting the usual Jason-Joyce interaction during our SPRD Retreat in 2004 : )

Natalie

Li Yen brought her 5 year old daughter Natalie to office yesterday.

Dash thinks that Natalie bears a keen resemblance to Dora the Explorer (see picture on left). It is not just the same haircut style or the same backpack. Both Natalie and Dora also share the same liking for pink blouses and are ever-ready with a happy friendly smile for everyone they meet : )

What caught Dash's attention was Natalie's tremendous zest for things and people around her. Take for example, when Natalie took a swig from the water bottle, and she topped off the quench with a relishing and refreshing "ahhah!". She could have been taking the most bubblicious zingy drink. Hmm, whatever she is having, Dash wants that too! Ok, make it double! With a dash of psychedelic happiness please!

Dash found out from Li Yen that she and Natalie made the journey to MCYS by public transport. And it being one of the rare occasions that Natalie took the bus, precocious Natalie asked mummy Li Yen, "Does the bus driver know where we are going?" : ) kekek

Hmmm, this reminds Dash of Ver's Marcus who when told by Ver that they were going to "take the bus" to grandma's place, pointed out solemnly to Ver that the "bus was heavy. Cannot take." kekek

The Story of Three Muffins in a Hot Oven Car

Scene: Hot sunny afternoon sun beaming, at the open carpark opposite Junction 8, where Dash, Gab and Mr Cheng were getting into the car.

Dash: (Happily scrambling onto the backseat) Oooh! Hot! Like an oven!
Gab: (Getting into the front passenger seat) Ya, but too bad I didn't bring the bread flour.
Mr Cheng: (Maneuvering into the driver seat) Aiyoh! (Then proceeds to fan the inside of the car for a while)
Dash: I am an Orange Muffin! Orange and... Orange and ...
Gab: Hazelnut!
Dash: Yes! (Looks at her orange-brown-white outfit : ) Yes, Orange and Hazelnut Muffin!
(Both Gab and Dash look at Mr Cheng who is in a black and grey pin-striped shirt)
Gab: Mr Cheng is a Oreo Muffin!
Dash: And Gab is a ... (Tries to look at Gab's shirt colour)
Gab: Blueberry Muffin! (Gab is in a blue shirt)

Choose Your Own Adventure III

Dash heard this Aesop-like story recounted over the radio this morning:

"A teacher instructed his students to close their eyes to try to see if they could smell the apple which the teacher would be waving in the air in front of them as he walked about.

After the first attempt, only one student put up his hand to say he had succeeded in smelling the apple. The teacher then told the students to close their eyes again to make a second attempt. This time, more students claimed to be able to smell the apple. Upon the third attempt, with the exception of one student, all the others put up their hands to agree that they could smell the apple.

The teacher then announced to the class that the apple was actually a plastic model with no apple fragrance."

Interestingly the narrator of the story drew a conclusion that was not about mind-body workings, but how one should trust his/her own senses, and not be swayed by the beliefs of the others.

dash: likes more apples

Afternote: See entry by 蔡深江 on “勇气,要拿得出来才算拥有”. Dash can't agree more.

The Nightcrawler

(An artist's impression of the Nightcrawler. Picture downloaded from here )

Dash finally caught X-Men III last week. But Dash's favourite X-men, the Nightcrawler was nowhere to be found in the movie! : (

One of the enduring themes in the X-Men series is this quest for one's identity - Wolverine searches for his past, Rouge tries to find ways to fit into her world, and Storm learns to assume leadership responsibilities. Dash guesses the Nightcrawler is the most attractive character because of his gentle introspective manner in coming to terms with his identity, and his honest and earnest attitude towards his friends. It's ironic that the Nightcrawler has such a violent start in X-Men II when under the influence of drugs, since he turns out to one of the most pacifist personalities.

Of cos, his blue colour makes him a compatriot of the other good-natured blue creatures, the Smurfs. Ahhh...

Box-ed

This is Lim Yian, all tucked into a box and ready to be shipped to anywhere in the world : ) Yep, Lim Yian is always ever-ready to hop off to any parts of the world! : ) Mmm! A true Raleigh spirit!

Then next up (erm, or down) is Dash with a little help from Sussy : )

Photos were taken on the 32nd SSEAYP PYs' last evening onboard Nippon Maru. Hence we were trying to make merry while the sun shine or the ship tossed : )

Well, boxed in a little office cubicle now, Dash wonders what the final destination address on the box should be.

And bows out the week.

Dash was at her cubicle when the pile of papers on her desk suddenly flurried into a dance as a gust of wind went by her desk.

Looking up, Dash realises that 原来那阵风是美凤!(translation: it was only mf who had sped by [mf=mei foong, and "foong" in Chinese Hanyu Pinyin is also written as "Wind"] : )

"Fiona is a very strange character"

- Mr Shee said, immediately after his Thank You speech this afternoon at SPRD's farewell lunch for him.

Hmmm. Dash is not sure why Fiona appears "strange" to Mr Shee. Perhaps the word is "fascinating"? Dash is sure that Fiona has left an indeliable mark on her : ) kekek and that does not include Fiona's physical (light) touch on Dash's arm this afternoon : )
