happy birthday, hau teck!

hau teck and his turtle on his shoulder ( : okay, the picture is not clear since the light is on the wrong side. but dash assures the reader that hau teck is grinning happily away! :D

kekek and we accidentally got vicky in the picture too :D

(one day later)

and then so hau teck says that the above picture is too dark. so then dash took another one - and this time, with the scarf that hau teck's friends gave him! : )

swirls and twirls

dash spent a big chunk of her childhood at bugis area. this architecture of narrow spiral staircase at the back of 2 or 3-storey shophouses were a common sight in bugis area then.
can you imagine a romeo at the bottom of the stairs serenading to a juliet at the top? since all the households were so close to one another, it must inevitably become a public display of affection then! : )

on seeing the post below, hau teck says ...

"wat? no mentioned of my amazing attractiveness and unresistable charisma?"

hau teck parks ...

... next to the "no parking" sign O_o

well, this evening, the CCC convey (of about 10 cars, dash thinks?) drove into picadilly circus, down the winding roads of the old seletar airbase to look for this grill and bar place.

dash is certain that these paths must be memory lanes too - for to orientate on these lanes, one requires an excellent memory! *hmmrrpf* definitely not easy to navigate. in fact, on our way out in the night, 4 cars got lost after losing sight of the convoy O_O fortunately hau teck's turtlemobile took position as the last car, and helped guide everyone out. *phew!

so why did we increase our carbon footprint on earth and pumped in the petrol of 10 cars in search of this place? because the steaks and buffalo wings at the place came with high recommendations from ced.

like a ninja, the wings have been categorised in levels of potency. the wings came in ten levels of spiciness - 1 being mild and 10 being absolute spice! dash tried a wing at level 3, and found it alright. yep, dash can certainly crank the spice factor up more! (:

one of the best part of the evening was the birthday celebrations for ping and hau teck where we all surprised them with a small cake each (baked by diana's sister :) two cute and huat arh little massage hammers were presented to them respectively, with andy bopping hau teck on the head *loudly* to test the hammer (: vicky pointed out in the painful aftermath that hau teck had no hair on his head to buffer the hit :D [afternote: hau teck shaved his hair off for charity about 2 weeks ago]

( : a stack of eeyore ...

adds up to a pillar of happiness! ( :
apparently a mysterious person in office has been stacking up soft toys at fauzi and soke wai's desks. this evening, there was intense discussion about the identity of the mysterious stacker.
but still to no avail. we still don't know whodunnit. hmm *puzzled*

this is a set of blue gates dash found during her wanderings in basel, switzerland in 2006.
dash likes the little cut-outs from the doors - like little bottles of wine or scientific apparatus like the measuring flasks : )

Fei Fei Wanton Mee 飞飞云吞面

dash and her colleagues had a day-long forum theatre-cum-jokering session at dramabox in chinatown yesterday. and finding themselves in the heart of good-food place, dash's colleagues made sure that breakfast, lunch, tea and coffee and dinner were an assortment of gastronomical delights! :D

dinner with vicky was at this famous wanton noodle place Fei Fei Wanton Mee (飞飞云吞面) in the food street.

after a 8-10 minutes' wait (thanks to vicky's patience waiting in line), the noodles finally arrived! ^_^ woohoo!
the noodles were apparently homemade, and each noodle strand was springy, adding much chewy factor to the quotient! :) the char-siew was moist with a very thin layer of fat that lined one side of the meat. there was also a generous serving of greens to boost the fibre factor :)
and, like the Ring from LOTR, the sauce and chili bind them all! >.<>

oh, but dash strongly recommends not partaking the soup that comes with the noodles since it contains much msg, which gave dash a muscle ache behind her neck and vicky a desire for water, marring the overall experience.

yes, vicky's recommendation for this wanton noodle has dash's thumbs-up! : )

nippon maru biscuits!

this was from the nippon maru open ship last year : )
there were 3 biscuits in each package, and the japanese wrapped them all nicely in a big pink and white furoshiki.
the biscuits made a good crunch! : ) *mmrgh! nyup nyup*

umm, astroboy and the pumpkin

alright, dash got home one day and found that astroboy had tripped from the top of a pile of books to land on a pumpkin.
like that in the photo.

ice monster @ plaza singapura

dash and ilya had a sudden craving for shaved ice in the evening, and so we strolled over to plaza singapura for one (:
there, at ice monster, we found its icon of a presumably yellowed ice-cube (or a tofu-wannabe) who even has his little tuft of hair all spiked up and a little stash of moustache across his upperlip.
erm, not sure why that icon would be a crowd-puller. hmm *puzzled*

the regular bowl of shaved ice with mango sherbet and generous cubes of mangoes arrived about 2 minutes after we took our seat - talk about quick service! (or perhaps it was because we were there at about 9.30PM near closing time.)
and mmm! it was good! the mango cubes were adequately juicy, the sherbet tingly light to the taste, and the combination of them makes *dash jumps in happinesses* :D

bam-bam-bam-BAMBOO-ed!

the bamboo forest backdrop on dash's home computer.
very like the bamboo grove in Ang Lee's Crounching Tiger and Hidden Dragon hor?

so then dash shook and zipped the camera left and right while shooting at the screen ( :

now, this is probably what a red panda who scurries hurriedly through a bamboo grove would see, yah?! ^_^ kekek

gnomes galore!

(picture of the community of gnomes taken at appenzell, switzerland in aug 06)

the adventures of tom 1.01

*scratch szzzratch*

*szzzzzzzizzzz zzzzttttsss*

"hey don't stop! keep scratching!"

"hmm, who's next to gimme a scratch?"

... and so tom patters across the carpet.

where is he going?

all cracked up! :D

this pottery vase - which dash found at the chiang kai shek memorial hall - looks like it's ready to crack up and burst out laughing anytime >.<

bubbled in!

this bright cheery fridge magnet with a bubbled-in space -- with a comfy-looking seat and a mug of starbucks coffee plonked on a coffee table, now helps to hold our shopping list in the kitchen (:

from a certain angle, because of the reflection of items in the kitchen and sink, it looks as if there was someone on the chair! *eeekkkss!* O_o

ilya and dash found this little souvenir at a starbucks outlet in taipei. yes, dash is now convinced that starbucks coffee taste the same in singapore, taipei, japan and in the states. talk about ISO certification and quality-control!

(:

a glass of spices and herbs ( :

ilya made pumpkin curry the other day. and being his usual scientific self, he measured out the spices and herbs with measuring spoons of varying sizes accordingly, and mixed them in a glass -- voila!

other than the fact that we lost about 1/3 of the sauce when it over-boiled onto the stove, the rest of the curry was absolutely wonderful ( : dash was totally pumpkined-out that night after dinner *burrp!*

ilya made a double cheese sandwich for dash's lunch earlier this week (: and he added in a handful of almonds for the crunch ^_^

@ the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention

the icon/mascot for the toy and comic convention is a rubic-cube with a smiling face (that drools?). dash likes it for the tofu-shaped head ( :

everywhere at a turn of a corner in the exhibition space, dash found something interesting - from life-size standup boards of comic characters to a booth space which named itself "This booth does not exist" O_oY

Of course, the cosplay characters - and dash got a picture of hellboy and a japanese schoolgirl. hmm, and the japanese schoolgirl actually had a nose ring. speak of the sharp visual contrast of a nose ring on a sweet-looking japanese school girl! ^_^

stepping out of the shadow

"hmmrh. surreptitiously sneaking out..."

hurrh?"

dash found this pink creature lying on the ramp running down to the south entrance of the school library. it was just lying there, looking blissfully contented. and erm, seemingly unaware of it being lost.

dash picked it up -- finder's keeper, this round -- and tucked it into a pocket. it is now named hurrh?". with a question mark. and now dash thinks she should perhaps start a museum of lost toys?
oh, and the yellow-red turtle creature with hurrh?" in the photo? - it was a mere acquaintance at a training course the other day. nowaday most courses have the instructors placing so many toys on the table. but since everyone could have their laptops with them at the course, it is no wonder why no one cared much or noticed the toys : )

how a fellow colleague described the stubborn behaviour of some students (:
here is a snapshot of a drawing dash saw in the comic museum at basel, switzerland (:

happy animals in food advertisements

isn't it strange how cognitively disassociated we are - when we see pictures of strangely happy animals clambouring for our attention to attract us to eat food made from their meat/their bodies, we don't really register the weirdness of it all?
