at angel and daniel's wedding last week, (another) daniel played photographer and took multiple photos at a time.

dash made an attempt to get everyone to "act silly" to pose for the photo.

and erm, ahem, it seemed that everyone acted normal except dash!! O_o ahahahah :D

in march 2006, when saya the polar bear first arrived in singapore, dash got a picture of wanlin the zookeeper feeding her yogurt. now in sept 2009, saya the polar bear is off to seek new adventures in australia :D

at the farewell drinks session for saya the polar bear, saya introduced us to otowa, the best sake place in singapore : ) and here are some photos of the 3 of us sipping away at our sake!

someone brings a cuppa of coffee and a bite-sized choc to you in bed! ^_^ - and without spilling the coffee on you nor losing the chocolate somewhere among the pillows :D

this is taken at the singapore discovery centre - yep, the same place where dash found out that our merlion has bright blue eyes!

and this signpost was sighted along a corridor where the popular phrases or words in singlish, our particular unique concoction of singaporean english, were put up in signs : )

and of cos dash totally like the singlish word "shiok" since it is spelt so similar to her name siok! arrrrhhhh! :D YESH! :D kekek

another movie that dash finally caught on dvd this weekend is royston tan's "15", about the lives of five teenagers aged 15 in singapore. their lives revolve about the darker side of society, where tattoo-covered young teenagers who play truant, peddle drugs for their livelihood, and are involved in gang fights and self-mutilation.

the hilarious magical realism thick with chinese pugilist references, characters' amazing fluency in the dialect hokkien in their songs (whether it is their re-mix version of the national anthem or songs about loyalty and brotherhood) and their immense grasp of vocabulary for swearing are just a few of the captivating elements in the movie!

on a more sombre note, other than the above cited entertainment value, the movie has a number of solemn messages. and dash thinks one of them must be about responsible parenthood. afterall, the teenagers' parents are all conspicuously missing in the movie - while the audience journeys with the characters to find the best building to jump off from in a bid to make his suicide headlines on the newspaper; and while the audience watches one of the character swallow bags of drugs to smuggle them. the only time a parent makes his appearance, we only see his hands from behind the camera slapping the boy copiously and hear his voice berating the boy in a stream of flawless hokkien vulgarities.

and also, like the hongkong triad movies, "15" the movie also examined the notion of "loyalty" and "brotherhood", values so often waved in the air when one talk about relationships in the underworld. dash wasn't sure if she should be laughing or be sad at how suggestions from a character's underworld brothers came in fast and furious on which building is the best place for one to jump off from.

yeah, dash enjoyed most part of the movie : ) save for dash's personal aversion to the prolonged close-up frames of facial piercings and self-mutilation, the stories of the five teenagers were well-told and well-integrated in the movie. dash thinks the director royston tan did a very good job! :D

a cat in kuching

the word "kuching" in malay refers to "cat". this picture is of a cat that dash saw at a longhouse at kuching. it looks really busy amongst the cardboard box, egg crate and the comb of banana. :D

chicken little - how do his glasses stay on his face?

and so dash finally got down to watching this animation "chicken little". in 2005, some of dash's friends were totally raving about the movie and how adorable chicken little is and how the antics of chicken little and his friends such as ugly duckling got them all cracking up. and of cos, they didn't just watch it once - they even sat through the animation TWICE within a month!

but to each their own i guess. in an acorn nutshell, the story unfolds to reveal communication issues and trust between parents and their child. for a movie that spent so much time and efforts making sure that the things the characters say and do are as close as possible to approximating human social needs and interactions; yet the conflict resolution between the parent and child was too hastily wrapped up to the point that the changes in behaviour of the characters were unrealistic.

while sitting through the hour-plus movie, dash spent 30% of the time wondering how chicken little's glasses were held up by his non-existent ears and whether the anatomy in the chicken's wings have opposable digits; another 30% of the time trying to catch a glimpse of her favorite character in the movie: fish-out-of-water; and then 30% of the time checking the time bar to estimate how long more it would take for the movie to end; and the last 10% of the time trying to figure out why her friends all raved about the movie.

hrmmm. uh-uh. D: either dash's funny bone is just on holiday or the jokes and antics just somehow seem not to tickle dash's funny bone. hrmmm. ):

thank goodness there is fish-out-of-water to save the movie/day for dash! interestingly, fish-out-of-water totally reminds dash of kenny from south park -- both are predominantly dressed in orange, and makes muffled or gurgling sounds, and their muffles and gurglings are understood by specific charaters in the animation.

however, dash is happy to see that no fishes were killed at the end of the movie! *phew*

let's roll! *whhhheeeeeeeee*

our stock of caffeine!

ilya got a total of 28(+3) tubes/sleeves of caffeine capsules for the nespresso machine. (the other 3 sleeves have been emptied into bowl for current consumption)

and cadet dash has decided that the stock can be built into a *formidable* fotress wall in the bookshelf kekek :D

and so dash asked herself what she would defend - the right to coffee, health and happiness!! Arrrhhhh... go go go! chargeeeeee!! :D

why does the merlion has blue eyes?!

dash recently brought a group of students to the singapore discovery centre (sdc) for a visit, and realised to her immense surprise - that the merlion in the sdc short film had *bright blue* eyes!!

eh?! O_O

dash guess she has never really thought about the colour of the merlion's eyes, and has always imagined it to be black or brown O_o

and perhaps within the chinese-malay-indian-others (cmio) framework, our merlion is "others"? odd. hrmm. dash would so want a peek at the merlion's identity card!

because technology is adopted at such a rapid pace in the singapore transport system, dash has to turn in her "old" cards in exchange for the "new" blue ones. oh darn it. dash kinda like the microchip looking card, but has to exchange it for a plain blue one. hrmph D:

"a pat of butter"

lya and dash had a conversation while walking from home to the cinema about why people refer to measurments of butter by pats.

it seems to dash that when one refers to a "pat of butter", it is easily understood in the fertile imagination. but why is the phrase "a pat of butter" so apt? and what else can be measured by "pats"?

dash's school campus has a lawn that is above the ground level. this lawn connects all the school buildings on the 3rd level. apparently in the past few days, the lawn area has been deemed a danger zone since a swarms of bees have launched a party of their own!

and inspired by the bees' busy work and flying around, dash made a quick sketch poster! :D
