"A teacher instructed his students to close their eyes to try to see if they could smell the apple which the teacher would be waving in the air in front of them as he walked about.
After the first attempt, only one student put up his hand to say he had succeeded in smelling the apple. The teacher then told the students to close their eyes again to make a second attempt. This time, more students claimed to be able to smell the apple. Upon the third attempt, with the exception of one student, all the others put up their hands to agree that they could smell the apple.
The teacher then announced to the class that the apple was actually a plastic model with no apple fragrance."
Interestingly the narrator of the story drew a conclusion that was not about mind-body workings, but how one should trust his/her own senses, and not be swayed by the beliefs of the others.
dash: likes more apples
Afternote: See entry by 蔡深江 on “勇气,要拿得出来才算拥有”. Dash can't agree more.
