@ the singapore garden festival II

in this second installment of dash's wanderings at the singapore garden festival, dash will tell of some of the sights at the gardenscapes.

dash was amazed at how the entire 6th floor of the suntec exhibition hall could be transformed into various green belts with corridors into different garden worlds. indeed one of the wonders of what a determined green mind could plan and green fingers could do!

one of the top prizes of the gardenscape competition went to the garden which recreated the lost city of atlantis (see picture on top left). with the use of ice-like glass and light, the designer successfully draws the the spectators into his mythical underwater architecture and world. absolutely masterful!

of the pictures, from clockwise: the themes of other gardens on display includes a rainforest, dutch and indian.

the rainforest garden gave dash a creepy feeling - from the arm-length large carnivorous pitcher plants to the electric blue light in the waters, the irregular water trickles and droplets sounds. *aiiieee!* okay, this is the little garden of horror for dash! O_o

the modernist dutch garden with its bright cheery orange wooden clogs provided dash with much relief from the earlier scares of the rainforest garden. *phew* the display of the dutch clogs in a parade towards simple wooden benches and the dried epiphytes/thin branches made the garden a play place for young children. *ahhhh* : )

the indian spice garden with its hindu relics made a peaceful sanctuary where visitors can take a 5-minute repose in the exhibition. so effective was the garden that dash spotted a woman who gamely kicked off her shoes and struck a yoga meditative pose in front of the garden exhibit, while her friend took an artistic shot of the moment : )

and so, while it is impossible for dash to blog about the 50ish pictures (and the 100ish photos taken by the galvanting geographer), dash recommends that interested readers could also visit the singapore garden festival in 2009.

in the meantime, there is the hort park, at alexandra road, one of the milestone stop along the southern ridges, to nurse one's green mind : ) do swing by when you can, and embark on the southern ridges walk! :)
