On Governance: Your Burger, Your Choice

The following is a thought experiment concocted and used by Jay for his social studies classes in school. Dash thought it was good fodder for thought. Here's for the sharing! ( :

So governance is never easy. You being the political powerhouse of your country, what wld be a good way of distributing your resources amongst your economically productive citizens? Let's simplify things: Given that you have only 10 hamburgers, and there are only 10 citizens. Which resource distribution system would you like to institute in your country?

System #1: Each of the 10 citizens gets a hamburger, regardless of the amount of work each puts in. Well then you may hv to make provisions on how to motivate the workers since all workers, hardworking or lazy, are rewarded equally.

System #2: You as the ruling party keeps 5 hamburgers under the table for yourself. The other 5 hamburgers goes to the top 5 workers of your country. Of cos then you wld hv to deal with the other 5 disgruntled workers who did not get the 5 hamburgers.

System #3: You as the ruling party keeps 9 hamburgers under the table for yourself, dangling one hamburger out there for the best workers to fight for. Of cos, you may never really have to give the one hamburger to the best worker. But the hope of being rewarded with the hamburger really gets the workers all high up in hopes, all trying their best to work for you!

You open a Burger King and sell all the burgers to make money.

The third system would be perfect!
