Searching for sea shells

This is a story about two people who went to the beach to look for sea shells. They walked deeper and deeper into the receding tide to look for better more beautiful shells, climbing the little ridges that somehow were not washed flat by the sweeping waves.


And the waves kept pulling back, revealing yet more expanse of sand, exposing more resplendent shells. So the two people kept walking and looking and picking.

Before they knew it, they have walked so far out into the dry sea that all they could see are the pale brown sand behind them and the light glimmer of the blue ocean in front of them. Unsure of where to turn, the pretty shells they held began to fall awkwardly from their grasps and they forgot why they even came so far in the first place.

Sometimes I feel that I have gone too far out too. Then I don't know which is worse - To swim back shore and turn my back on the possibility of new experiences, or to drown when my strength runs out.
