Happy Birthday, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle!

Dash was delightfully surprised to find out from Google that it's Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Birthday today! : )

Providence had that Dash was surviving on a good dose of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes over the last weekend, spending much time admiring Holmes' methods and his intense personality, as well as Sidney Paget's original illustrations of Holmes and Watson.

Interesting fact that The Strand which commissioned Sidney Paget to illustrate the The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes had actually intended to hire his brother Walter who did King Soloman's Mines. By a stroke of fate, Sidney got the job instead, and gave us the impressions and ideas of Sherlock Holmes and Watson we now know. Another little known fact was that Sidney Paget's Holmes was modelled on his brother Walter. So Dash sees that both brothers "got" the job : )

Here's one of Paget's illustration of Holmes in his dressing gown, perched on the cushions and smoking his pipe, in "The Final Problem", the final chapter to The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
