During a weeklong quest to look for her misplaced MP3 player, Dash found by chance a book titled "Rule of Four" by Ian Caldwell and Dustin Thomason she bought in Philippines last Dec. Having read the first 65 pages this evening, Dash found the book's edifying reflections on time much thought-provoking:
Time and Again
"Strange thing, time. It weighs most on those who have it least." - opening line of the book
"... and a strange hole in my life that only seemed to get bigger the more time wore on." - Tom reflecting on his life after the accident
Time Heals?
"Time is what disperses us" - Tom disputing the common belief that time heals
"Time is no da Vinci. Not even a Rembrandt. Just a cheap Jackson Pollock." - Paul musing on Tom's theory that time is no healer
Personally, Dash is of the view that if time has a healing effect, it is only because people are apt to forgetting - what Milan Kundera wld refer to as the struggle of memory against forgetting. Even Stephen Chow in "Kungfu Hustle", in one of his more philosophic moments, speaks of memory as the root of sadness. Interesting. Ah well, something to think about while Dash continues to look around for ways to escape what Sherlock Holmes calls "the commonplaces of existence" : )
