Dash and Ilya were in Taipei in June 2011, and it was a gastronomical experience! :D Yesh, even for a vegetarian Ilya ^_^
Taipei's vegetarian movement is so strong that the average serving crew in many restaurants were knowledgeable to ask if one was a lacto-ovo vegetarian, vegan or even if one was on a macrobiotic diet! O_o In fact, the vegetarian movement is so deeply rooted that a good number of public schools were offering vegetarian food on Mondays!
And since the Galloping Geographer's research brought him in contact with many vegetarians and pro-vegetarian movement organisations in Taipei, Dash and Ilya all benefitted from his whirlwind vegetarian food tour! ^_^ And here are some photos of the food we had :D Will upload more once Dash finds more :D
(Below) Fresh and smooth beancurd! En route from our hotel to Ximending :D This one is so good that Dash had it twice - and was so tempted to bring some back. But alas, the beancurd had no preservatives and was best consumed within the day :D
(Below) A salad with yuzu sauce and a cuppa of fresh juice which the waiter suggested we consume first before starting on the meal for a better digestion of the meal :)
(Below) A cabbage-filled mini pancake :D Taiwanese cabbage is a sweet and crunchy variety and one can use it for both dessert and as a dish! :D Yummy! (A Singaporean cab driver who is married to a Taiwanese was telling me about how on his trips to Taiwan to visit his in-laws, he would buy lots of cabbage back :D Of course in turn, Dash was telling him that she buys Taiwanese rice back :D Hurhurh Taiwanese food rawks!)
Ahhhhhhhh! And these are just a miniscule sub-set of all the food photos that Dash took then! Will rummage through archives for the rest ^_^ Sit tight!
